All Roads at CultureCon Lead to Creativity

CultureCon is a cultural rite of passage for the young Black creative or entrepreneur. It is a space of either discovery or rediscovery. It is a space of endless possibility—or in other words, it is what you make it. In my opinion, CultureCon was created to be a space of creative expression, or a catalyst for you to do so.

I walked into my first CultureCon in 2023 after stumbling upon an ad for it on social media. I contemplated what this space would do for me, but without nerves, I found myself. I had no idea who I’d become when I followed that road to the Brooklyn Navy Yard for the first time two years ago. The road was unclear, but it seemed hopeful. I walked into an indoor–outdoor setup filled with beautiful Black and brown smiles and outfits to match every emotion.

The room was full of education, drive, and community; three things I didn’t know I needed

until I went. It was a space where everyone was eager to network.

Since attending CultureCon, I’ve been able to brand myself and create a creative career that only one can dream of. This career feels easy and true to myself. I’ve created content for both the consumer and myself. I’ve started this publication, and I’ve learned to say my name in a way that feels like it has meaning.

I don’t know about you, but I believe I have a cultural testimony that may inspire you to find yourself too—or ignite that creative fire that may be simmering. Today, Monday, September 29th, marks the official beginning of “CultureCon Week.” This week is a prelude to the conference this weekend. It’s filled with fun events that can bring you both a good time and connections to carry into the weekend. You can expect to learn about yourself through the gaze of others while enjoying mocktails or cocktails in vibrant spaces.

One thing I recommend when going to the conference is to completely be authentic. I know we say “be yourself” sounds cliché, but it’s true. Everyone who attends has a creative mind, and the best way to show that is by showing up as yourself.

This year’s theme is “Take Up Space,” so be sure when you walk into that room or panel to own who you are and make your presence known.
