John Clarence Stewart Brings His Brilliance to Season 2 of NBC's Brilliant Minds

Updated: Nov 20, 2025

From P-Valley, Luke Cage, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, and many more, John Clarence Stewart brings his talent and brilliance to season 2 of NBC's hit medical drama, Brilliant Minds as Dr. Anthony Thorne.

Season 2 is here, and Dr. Anthony Thorne has arrived to help save the day and provide care at Bronx General. As the new season unfolds, Dr. Thorne is showing us that Black men can lead, heal, and create new safe havens in medical care. Although fictional, Dr. Thorne and John Clarence Stewart share things in common. Both know how to take initiative and perform well. John shines as he brings Dr. Thorne’s empathetic, compassionate medical support to a screen near you.

"When you meet Dr. Anthony Thorne, you think you have him figured out. He has a way of coming and his way of coming is to help his patients, he doesn't want to waste time," says Stewart. In episode 208, "The Upside Down", we see John bring this to life in a real way. His involvement with a patient who suffered a rare medical condition following a horrific plane crash was close-knit, caring, yet logical.

This episode challenges the mind, where nothing is as it seems. For this patient and the doctors, everything was "upside down". Dr. Thorne, Dr Wolfe and the other doctors, were "challenged" "and forced to show up in new ways"(Stewart), but this growth extended beyond the patient. This season "each of them are growing and evolving in their own way and as they evolve their evolution bumps against other people in a way that's organic, earned, and honest" (Stewart). "Expect the unexpected this season" he adds. Expect storylines that you won't see coming and "drama on another level." Just when"you think you know where the plot is going, you don't" (Stewart).

In episode 208, Dr. Thorne makes quite the debut, and it had me intrigued to know more. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want spoilers, but John isn’t one to "spill the beans". However, he is a firm believer that the element of surprise will keep us all tuned in to Brilliant Minds and yearning for more each week. “You will see a lot this season. The first season I laughed as well. There’s this energy; there’s this banter. I think you’ll also see an extension of that; it’ll deepen. There’s just this new energy that’s infused with these other characters that shows us new shades and new colors of the doctors we think we know” (Stewart).

I’m excited to tune in to see more of this “juicy” drama that showrunner Michael Grassi, John, and the rest of the cast have for us.

Catch Episode 208, "The Upside Down"of Brilliant Minds airing tomorrow on NBC at 10pm.

Catch the rest of season 2, Mondays at 10pm EST on NBC
